Employment Objectives To use my background, skills, and vision toward analyzing, facilitating, recommending and/or creating outstanding solutions to extraordinary issues. Professional Experience Brierley + Partners December 2011 to Present Technical Engagement Lead/Implementation Specialist  Led technology portion of client solutions using Brierley’s LoyaltyWare solution, functioning as a “go-between” for developers, clients, Business Analysts, Project Managers, Account Management, and Product Development groups. In several cases, where other resources were not available I also filled in gaps with managing project scope/process, and assisted with database and development tasks using C# and PL/SQL. Worked directly with infrastructure teams to ensure process stability and reliability with file transfers to and from client and vendors, continuity and scalability of web services, scalable and efficient database services, and internal efficient and up-to-date application tier components. By taking a “holistic” approach to solving complex problems, I was able to facilitate several groups’ coordination in finding better solutions; in most cases the only thing needed to get these people talking was to break them out of a myopic view of their respective work and figure out common denominators – most of the time resulting in either massive performance gains, or more robust and reusable/scalable solutions. Epsilon October 2009 to December 2011 Database Developer  Created processes and technical functionality required to support business needs of a marketing database.  These included Operational Data Store (ODS) databases, Campaign Data Mart (CDM) databases, and Reporting Data Mart (RDM) databases for a number of clients.  Performed extensive development using Korn shell, PERL, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, IBM DataStage, Netezza database, and other secondary tools/languages. Performed extensive database/query/code tuning exercises with system DBAs and other developers to increase efficiency and performance.  In many cases, runtimes were decreased significantly and with less contention for resources.  in almost all cases, these exercises went beyond simple query tuning and focused more on making the underlying code more efficient. Worked with Business Systems Analysts to troubleshoot and optimize campaign execution using Unica and other tools. In one client account, there were over 100 campaigns running each night, and represented up to 12 hours of processing time. In short order, by working closely with the campaign authors, we were able to trim off 4 hours nightly.  After optimizing the underlying database, this runtime was cut to less than 6 hours nightly. Many times, I was called upon to become a liason between business-centric, and technology-centric individuals (both internal and external clients), to help effectively translate “tech-speak” to discrete benefits/features, or into a business-friendly project overview. Conversely, many times I helped formulate processes and specs for development-centric personnel where there had been difficulties bridging the gap from business requirements to technical plans. Tribal DDB July 2008 to January 2009 Data Acquisition Developer Built ETL processes using Informatica, PERL, PL/SQL, and Unix shell scripts against Oracle, MS SQL, Postgres, and mySql databases. Architected and developed multi-stage process to extract website metrics from Webtrends server into an Oracle database, adding summary information and delivering to client via PGP-encrypted file. This project included a custom application using ASP.NET to connect to the Webtrends server using the provided ODBC driver, housekeeping scripts in PL/SQL, aggregation and extract via Informatica, and using PERL for controlling the whole thing. Targetbase November 2004 to July 2008 Senior Engineer Analyzed, recommended, oversaw, and implemented Business Intelligence solutions, including database models (relational and OLAP), dashboard and reporting platforms, and architecture of user interface and ad-hoc modes. Architected and oversaw complete build of a realtime, interactive dashboard product incorporating advanced analytics, professional creative, and cutting-edge technology. This provided instant insight into the marketing performance, and the client believed the extremely professional interface made the product even more usable. Platform used Business Objects, Crystal Xcelsius, and Query as a Web Services for data access (chosen for fit with client's Universe expertise). Performed data analysis and ETL functions using Informatica and SAS. Proposed changing mentality of dashboard builds from one of fitting an out-of-the-box toolset to one of using component modules wrapped inside of a custom “glue” built in ASP.NET (and/or Java or other tools/frameworks/languages as needed). This project was subsequently implemented, recognizing a considerable cost savings by reusing frameworks and functions, while delivering a more customizable and extensible dashboard offering. Built framework and provided consulting to a “mini-dashboard” project, in which production data analysts would be updating Xcelsius-based interactive reports and delivering to a client on a monthly schedule. This represented the “crawl” phase in leading the client toward a self-service, fully realtime and interactive dashboard solution. By utilizing production staff, the cost to produce the reports was minimized, while building the career skills of junior-level staff. Advocare International June 2001 to November 2004 Business Intelligence/DBA/Application Development Led business intelligence initiative utilizing BusinessObjects and other tools to access Oracle SQL database. Created, tested, and maintained Business Objects universes incorporating Visual Basic scripting, Oracle PL/SQL functions, and other advanced functionality. Developed, tested, and maintained Oracle PL/SQL code in a production and reporting environment. Developed plan for incorporating spatial (geographic) data for analysis. Aided in development and support of corporate web sites, including HTML, ASP, and JSP server-side programming. Analyzed needs of business community in many areas, including business intelligence, production (OLTP) data and process, and other support areas. Managed Business Intelligence Analysts, Data Quality/Data Integrity Analysts, Data Modelers, and Database Administrator personnel. During my tenure with Advocare, I was called into many roles including Information Systems Support Manager where I managed help desk and network infrastructure personnel, and also Systems Architect designing and recommending improvements to most aspects of the IT department (Hardware/Software/Infrastructure). WCI Consulting March 1999 to May 2001 Senior Consultant Provided technical and business consulting services to clients in Business Objects, WebIntelligence, SQL database, and related Data Warehouse and Internet issues. Gathered technical and business case background regarding client data structures and systems, designed reports and universes for data access and retrieval. Created scripted reports and scheduled events. Created interactive and dynamic web sites and e-commerce solutions for internal use (intranet), external use (extranet) and public use (internet). Provided Data Warehouse ETL programming services using Informatica and Oracle PL/SQL. Provided pre-sale product expertise and demonstrations for comparison of Business Objects and other related decision support products. Provided training/guidance for Business Objects users and designers. Managed team of consultants at client sites, while maintaining relationships with client personnel and doing both technical work and visionary consulting. Managed consultants in various geographic locations to facilitate communication and promote internal growth. Consulted with clients regarding web-based information delivery systems, including integration with SQL databases and application server software. Performed project management functions, ensuring timely delivery of identified goals within a project. CompuCom Systems, Inc. 1993 to March 1999 Senior Operations Specialist Design and communicate information necessary to implement changes to processes and systems in the purchasing department of a multi-billion dollar corporation, including reports and databases, applications and usage, and entire processes. Responsible for research, resource planning, presentation, and documentation. Major projects include purchasing forecasting process, product technical specification gathering and reporting, government purchasing policies, and integration of new lines of business. Consulted on the implementation of web-based information portals (intranet) for use in purchasing and sales departments.
